Benteler: the right pole position for every variant, without paper drawings.

At its facility in Klášterec nad Ohří, Czech Republic, Benteler uses Arkite to project the exact pole positions on press loading carts, based on X/Y coordinates, for a practically unlimited range of variants.

Project summary

01

Industry

Automotive supplier, metal forming.

02

Process

Loading carts with poles that secure plates during pressing.

03

Setup

One 3D sensor and two projectors.

04

Data

Pole positions as X/Y coordinates per variant.

The challenge

Unlimited configurations, one manual task

Before pressing, operators load carts with poles that keep the plates securely in place. Each product variant requires its own pole layout, and with a wide range of variants the number of possible configurations is practically unlimited.

To place the poles correctly, operators needed quick and reliable access to technical drawings. Looking up and interpreting those drawings for each variant slowed the process down and left room for placement errors.

Problems to solve

  • Accurate pole placement so plates stay secure during pressing
  • A different pole layout for each product variant
  • Dependence on searching and reading technical drawings
  • Consistent results regardless of operator experience
The solution

Pole positions projected from coordinates

Benteler deployed Arkite at the Klášterec nad Ohří facility. For each variant, Arkite uses X/Y coordinates to project the exact pole positions directly onto the cart. The operator no longer has to translate a drawing into a physical layout.

Arkite provides real-time visual guidance and verification during loading. With one 3D sensor and two projectors, the instructions cover the full working area of the cart.

Implementation

How a cart is loaded

  1. 01

    Variant layout

The pole layout for the variant is defined as X/Y coordinates.

  2. 02

    Projection

Two projectors show each pole position directly on the cart.

  3. 03

    Placement and verification

The operator places the poles while the 3D sensor supports verification of the placement.

  4. 04

    Pressing

The cart goes to pressing with the plates secured in the defined positions.

Results

What Benteler achieved

01

Paperless process

Digital guidance reduced the reliance on paper-based instructions and the effort spent managing physical documents.

02

Higher efficiency

Training and execution improved, with fewer errors and a significant improvement in task completion times.

03

Fewer placement mistakes

Guidance and verification reduced errors in pole placement and made execution consistent and reliable.
